Metal Halide lighting is the best for full spectrum
For flavor, Pak Choi is our all-time favorite! It grows to awesome size and can be harvested almost daily. The super-crisp leaves from aquaponic production can not be beat for rich flavor and beneficial vitamins and minerals. Chlorophyl is a natural detoxer.... the more the merrier in our toxic environment. Growing indoors or in the greenhouse keeps nasty airborn contaminants and pests away... we have no fear of plucking and eating our produce!
Lighting is so important. Metal halide lamps provide the full sun spectrum needed for indoor lighting... also providing much needed heat during the winter. Compare the lumens delivered by your lighting plus the heat generated and you will see the benefit of the metal halide lamps. LED's are limited in the spectrums that they provide, cost a fortune, and provide no heat... highly overated! We know... we fell for the hype and used them with poor results.
For a few month of the year in the Northeast USA, aquaponic greenhouse production is great! You must , however, be able to adequately ventilate to prevent overheating. Window openings and an exhaust fan are very necessary to maintain temperatures in the optimum range. Basil offers so many positive benefits that it has to be considered the most beneficial of our vegetables... and it loves heat and water! Remember, the deeper the water in the plant troughs, the slower the temperature swings will be.
Tulsi basil has so many healthy and medicinal properties... everyone should grow a patch of it for personal health care. It is especially potent when grown in aquaponics, because the trace elements are present in the water and non-GMO fish food.
